What to Expect
This page walks you through the entire process-from first contact through to potential project inclusion. Knowing what to expect can help you decide if this project feels right for you and prepare you for the experience if you choose to participate.
At a Glance
This phase is about getting to know each other and preparing for your session.
Initial Contact & Conversation
- We'll have a phone or video conversation to discuss the project, answer your questions, and see if it feels like a good fit
- No pressure-this is an exploratory conversation, not a commitment
- I'll share more about my approach and you'll share what draws you to the project
If You Decide to Participate
- Reflection Worksheet: You'll receive a worksheet asking you to choose 2-3 words that describe how you want to be seen (strong, soft, free, wild, etc.)
- Mood Board Creation: Based on your words, I'll create a visual mood board showing lighting, poses, and concepts that might resonate with you
- Review & Adjust: We'll review the mood board together and adjust based on what feels right to you
- Consent Forms: You'll receive and review model release and consent forms
- Session Planning: We'll confirm date, time, what to bring, and any questions you have
Communication Style Note: I'm autistic, which means I communicate directly and literally. If anything I say is unclear, please ask for clarification-I won't be offended. I take you at your word, so if you say you're okay, I believe you. If you need something, please say so explicitly.
The beginning of your session is designed to help you settle in and feel comfortable.
When You Arrive
- Warm greeting and tour of the space
- Time to settle in, use the restroom, have water
- Final review of your chosen words and what they mean to you
- Discussion of boundaries, comfort levels, and any changes since our planning conversation
- Walkthrough of wardrobe options you brought
- Questions about where you want to begin
Technical Setup
- I'll set up lighting according to the mood we discussed
- Safety video recording will be positioned (for both our protection-these recordings are private and confidential)
- Music if you'd like it (or quiet if you prefer)
- Temperature adjusted for comfort
You're in Control: At any point, you can pause, take a break, adjust the plan, or stop entirely. This is your session-I'm here to facilitate what you need.
Sessions follow a general flow designed to help you settle in gradually:
We start clothed to help you get comfortable with the camera, the space, and me. Simple prompts, gentle movement, finding your rhythm.
Then we build toward the core work where your body becomes visible. This might mean transitioning through different levels of clothing, using fabric or draping, or moving directly to nude work-whatever feels right for you and serves the images we're creating.
Throughout, we check in regularly, take breaks when needed, and adjust based on what's working. The specific approach evolves based on your comfort, your chosen words, and what the images need.
We end with time to decompress, get dressed, and briefly talk through what resonated and what didn't.
About Emotion: Crying, laughing, going quiet, feeling overwhelmed-all normal. If emotion surfaces, I'll lower the camera, give you space, and wait. There's no rush. Tissues and water are always available.
The session doesn't end when you leave. Here's what happens next.
Immediately After
- Privacy to get dressed and collect yourself
- Brief debrief: "What did you love? What would you prefer to avoid in images?"
- Reconfirmation of publication consent preferences
Follow-Up Check-In
- I'll send a calm, open check-in message to see how you're feeling
- No pressure to respond-just checking in
- If you're experiencing regret, discomfort, or second thoughts, please tell me immediately
Processing Time
- I deliberately wait before sending preview images
- This gives emotions time to settle-you won't review images while emotions are fresh
- All files are backed up to two separate locations for safety
Preview & Selection
- You'll receive a private, password-protected gallery with preview images
- Take your time reviewing-no rush
- Note which images resonate, which don't, and why
- Request deletion of any images you're not comfortable with
Final Editing & Delivery
- I'll edit the final selections in a consistent style
- You'll receive all edited images in a private gallery
- You can download and keep all your images
- We'll discuss which (if any) you're comfortable having considered for public sharing
You Can Change Your Mind: Even after initial approval, you can revoke consent for specific images. Your "no" is always honored, no questions asked.
Participation in the photography session does not automatically mean public sharing. That's a separate decision you make after seeing your images.
If You're Interested in Public Sharing
- We'll discuss which specific images you'd be comfortable sharing publicly
- You decide on identification level (full name, first name only, pseudonym, or anonymous)
- You can limit how images are used (e.g., exhibitions only, no social media)
- You can include your own written reflection alongside images, or not
Before Any Public Release
- You'll receive notification showing exactly which images will be used and where
- You can withdraw consent for any or all images before they're made public
- You maintain control over your narrative
After Public Release
- Once images are public (online gallery, exhibition, publication), they cannot be fully retracted
- However, you can still request removal from future uses or digital platforms
- I will always honor requests to limit ongoing exposure
No Pressure: If you change your mind about public sharing-whether it's the day after your session or the day before release-I will honor that without question, guilt, or persuasion. Your autonomy matters more than any project outcome.
